CII : Affordable Healthcare for All- The Way Forward for Tamil Nadu

Tamilnadu has been a consistent front runner in effective delivery of healthcare to its residents. To understand the underlying dynamics better and raise the bar on equitability, CII conducted a day-long Affordable healthcare for all - the way forward for TN conference in Chennai, on 19th July, 2017. ​Chaired by Dr.S.Prakash (Star Health and Allied Insurance), ​panelists and participants were representative of the plurality of providers, (small/corporate; rural / semi-urban/urban; public/private) and other stakeholders in this continuum. 

  • As the steward of Quality in healthcare delivery, CAHO was well represented in various panels and discussions. State Representative Dr.Anuradha Pichumani (Sree Renga Hospital) set the tone by outlining the breadth of CAHO's activities and  stressed on the need to be mindful of the quality of the various care processes involved while structuring affordable solutions.

  • Debating the Government’s move on capping prices for various procedures and its impact on stakeholders, Dr.Lallu Joseph (Christian Medical College) and Dr.K.P.Pichumani (Sree Renga Hospital) pointed out the pitfalls of such a move on the SHCO ecosystem in the country.

    ​The presence of the senior managers from bodies like the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project and IRDAI on hand helped in exploring the multilateral dimensions of the issue.

The panel on Trust deficit in hospitals was chaired by CAHO member Dr.Ravikumar. Dr.Kiran (Peacock Hospitals) spoke on  the need for being consistent and transparent, while developing a good rapport with the patient community.

Discussing the merits of Healthcare technology solutions in bringing down the costs of treatment, CAHO Coordinator for the South Mr.Sameer Mehta (Mehta Hospitals) shared his in deploying technology for greater efficiency in hospitals.
