Aster MIMS, Calicut declared as Centre for Quality Promotion

Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organizations (CAHO), a pan India organization of all NABH Accredited hospitals has recognized Aster Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut as a Centre for Quality Promotion (CQP) to provide support to other hospitals to start their journey of patient safety and quality on 9th July 2017.

Dr. Vijay Agarwal, President CAHO said “Out of over 50000 hospitals in the country, those with NABH accreditation, are well below 600 and there is a long way to go to achieve NABH standards across the country. The NABH has started a Pre Accreditation Entry Level Certification to help hospitals to achieve accreditation in a phased manner. Under the guidance of NABH and Quality Council of India (QCI), CAHO has trained over 240 professionals with the ability to coach and train others through its CPQIH (Certified Professionals for Quality Implementation in Hospitals) program. CAHO is also identifying and recognizing hospitals as Centres for Quality Promotion who will actively promote NABH accreditation with the help of CPQIH and technology.” Aster MIMS, Calicut is the 1st hospital to achieve Centre for Quality Promotion status in North Malabar region and 11th hospital in the country.

Dr. Abraham Mammen- Head Quality Assurance, Aster MIMS, Calicut said that “This is a proud moment for ASTER MIMS, Calicut and as part of Aster@30, we have taken the responsibility of sensitizing and creating awareness of quality in health care and accreditation of NABH, of hand holding hospitals that require help in implementation of the same through CPQIH and will provide technology and train the representatives of interested hospitals on implementation of NABH standards in this region. Hospitals who want to achieve NABH accreditation can approach Aster MIMS for support and guidance.”

Dr. Ajitha P N, President, IMA, Calicut Chapter, Dr. Narendra Nath Jena- National Secretary, SEMI (Society for Emergency Medicine India) and Dr. Fabith Moideen- President, SEMI, Kerala Chapter graced the Inaugural function. . Along with the CQP inauguration, Aster MIMS, Calicut organized a 2days training programme on NABH Certification for Emergency department standards. 35 participants from all over Kerala, Tamilnadu and Bangalore attended and benefited from the training.
